Sowing Generiosity
If you’re from Nebraska you’ll know the picture associated with this post. The Sower is on top of Nebraska’s state capitol building. The Sower is supposed to represent Nebraska’s agricultural heritage.
Farming today is full of science, but there was a time that farming was a numbers game. The more seed you plant, the better your chances for a good crop. But it’s always been more than that. It was also about how much time and energy you put into caring for the crop. There is a lot of maintenance in farming, but you have to be generous with the seed to even start.
Let’s go with a more urban example. I’ve been in sales for a while now. There were times when I was recruited by financial investment companies to work for them. When they recruited me, one of my questions was how do I get started? The universal answers - “you make a list of 200 people you know and start calling them”.
The contacts were the seed. It always sounded horrible to me, but the strategy is sound. The more calls you make, the more opportunities you’ll have to make a sale. You’re also going to annoy a lot of your friends and family…I think Arbonne is the only thing worse. It’s about the opportunities you create.
When it comes to life, I do believe in giving as generously as possible. I believe that doing as much good as possible will bring more good to the world…maybe for myself, my family, or maybe for my community. I believe that giving time, money or self will always bring back something good to me. My wife and I tithe to our church without question. We also give when we can and support when we can. I believe that God will take care of us even when times are hard because we are generous. I also believe He will always take care of us.
The key is to be generous of all that you can. Help others whenever you can. If you can’t do much, that’s cool, just doing something is better than nothing. And its not just money, it’s time, its volunteering and even just helping spread the word. I believe that if you mix faith with generosity, you’ll find blessings. That might be financial, it might be personal. It could be respect, it could be peace of mind. As long as you’re doing it from the heart and not for prosperity, you’ll find something…probably something you’ve needed but didn’t even know it.
