If you ever read anything I share, you’ll know how I feel about humility and living a humble life. You’ll also know that for many years, I wasn’t the most humble person. To this day I’m definitely confident in who I am but am also very realistic about it. I actually laugh at who I used to be and how I thought, but that’s another subject.
Humility may seem weak. It may seem less confident. It may go against what you feel you should do, but that’s because you don’t understand the power of humility.
Humility is something that will change how you see the world. It will change how you interact with your family, friends and community. Humility will alter things in your life that you didn’t even realize were part of you who you are.
When I was less than humble, my focus was on myself. And I thought I was pretty cool and had all the answers. I would figure problems out on the go because I was gooood!
Really I was foolish!!
My pride never let me be wrong and ask questions. When something went wrong, I tried to find a reason it wasn’t my fault. Pride (the opposite of humble) made life much harder for me.
Once I accepted I didn’t have all the answers and I couldn’t do anything, a shift happened. I started wanting to learn. I started thirsting for knowledge. That thirst grew in my career, my spiritual life, my personal life…I started to seek knowledge.
Humility spurs on growth. When we can admit we don’t understand, it can lead us to looking for answers. When we find answers, we find more questions…that’s the funny thing about life…we’ll never know it all. It becomes this amazing, wonderful circle of growth that all started with “I don’t know”.
Don’t be afraid to be humble. God gave us this beautiful blessing to help us attain our full potential. To push us so that we can be the best we can be. Lower your pride and let yourself experience something far more beneficial and powerful.
