Be Content
Being content is not something I have much experience with. I feel like I’m always wanting more. More stuff, more knowledge, more experiences, more kids (Cort says we are done). More time, tools and sleep. More more more.
For the most part I’m ambitious, combined with the “can-do” spirit my Dad taught me which means I want to do a lot and think I can do it…somehow. That leads to a spirit that is not often content. But I’ve been working on it.
I have more than I need. I definitely have more than I deserve. I’ve been mentally working on showing myself that. Sometimes I feel like I need something, but then I take a step back and realize, I don’t worry about a warm bed to sleep in. I don’t worry about being hungry. I don’t worry about having clothes, love or friendship. I don’t worry about filling up my gas tank or driving to work.
I have it pretty good. When I focus on knowing that, I can find that elusive feeling of content.
The world tells us we need more. That we need to live the lives of billionaires and should have the right to take sweet vacations and just buy whatever we want. But that’s not a right and if that’s what you value your life on, you might be missing a lot of happiness.
The happiest people I know are those who live simple lives. Who already understands what it's like to be content. I’m working on being there. The older I get the less I care about things I don’t have, which is actually kind of relaxing.
What are you missing right now because you’re worried about something you don’t have? Who are you forgetting about when you’re focused on what you wish you owned?
Life is a quick ride, I already spent too much of it wishing I had more meaningless things…take a step back and look at what's around you. Find a way to be content with what you have and find a new type of happiness.
