Helping Others

What if I gave more?

What if I did more?

What if I said more?

We often look at what we give, whether it's time, money or thought, in terms of how much we can give without stress.

The “without stress” is the most important part of that sentence. I’m willing to help as long as it doesn’t inconvenience me. I’m willing to donate a little bit as long as I can still buy a round or get a bigger TV or fancier car. I do something good if I get something out of it or a chance to win something.

For most of us in the USA, I feel that many can do more. Many could help others by donating and volunteering. I think many of us could give more, sacrifice something…and make things a little harder for ourselves while making something easier for someone else.

I donate a lot of time to nonprofits…it's hard on my family, but I want to help others struggling. You might feel the same. You might feel the pull. I think most of us would if we could get a moment to breathe. If we could get a quiet moment without social media or advertising in our face telling us we need this or that, or seeing how wonderful everyone’s lives are (and of course lots of selfies behind filters…make sure you give them likes and attention…or don’t…yeah don’t do that).

I’m going to challenge myself and my wife to look at our lives and figure out what else we can do. She’s stressing right now reading this, but it’s important to be there for those who can’t do it themselves. What can we live without that might not make life better for us, but better for someone else?
