Be A Good Neighbor

What kind of responsibilities do we have to others?

Are we just here to take care of ourselves?

Is it about looking out for #1?

There are very few beings that live truly alone. Humans are by far a pack animal. Sure we get some loners who run by themselves, but usually there is a reason for it. Something that changed their natural tendencies.  Otherwise we run in a herd.

Inside our human herd, we find lots of leaders with lots of different ideas. Some ideas are purely good, some ideas have good intentions, some ideas are mis-aligned, and I believe some ideas are evil and wrong. We all choose to follow some idea, some path of life.

As we walk down our chosen path, we should be considering who is leading us down that path. Not just for ourselves, but for others. We are herd,  and like most herds we tend to just follow the one in front of us. We follow those around us, which can lead to a slaughter house rather than a green meadow.

If we just keep following and not thinking, not trying to see what’s ahead of us, we might be going the wrong way. And if you think it’s just about you, you’re mistaken. Who is behind you?

We have children, family, friends, neighbors…all watching us and looking ahead. Maybe we should consider looking ahead of the herd since there are those behind us who are just following us.

Maybe we should be better than the rest in small ways, in our beliefs and our values. We don’t all need to be vocal leaders, but do small things to get us and those who are following to get back on the right path.

Our actions speak more volume than any speech or any social media posts. Think about how you act today and what you do. Think about who might be watching and be a good neighbor by being a good example of how we should live. Be Kind. Be Just. Be Good To Each Other.
