Give - not grudgingly
At the time of writing this we are two days away from Christmas.
Christmas really is a beautiful time of the year.
It seems like people tend to be more forgiving, more grateful and more generous.
I believe that it's rooted in the reason for the season, which is celebrating Jesus’ birth, but I’d be naive if I thought all people understood the root of it. I’m not here to judge anyone’s intentions.
But as we shake the boxes under the Christmas tree with wonderment of what it could be, I hope that we all think about those less fortunate. There are many who have much less than you. There are many families who are battling diseases that rack up bills that take away from presents and gifts.
People who struggle to make ends meet and little ones whose Christmas won’t include presents. We have to remember those people. I’m more than blessed and get much more than I deserve.
As I listen to the howl of the bitter cold wind today, I know there are those who don’t have homes or even the proper clothing. We should remember those as we decide which coat to wear - the dark brown one, light brown one, black one, petticoat……
I’m not trying to make anyone feel bad, but I know I often feel guilty. I’m just trying to help us all think outside of our little bubble. We often don’t realize how hard it is for others. We have our own problems…no one is without problems, but we should ask ourselves is what I’m dealing with even comparable to others.
I’m encouraging you to help.
Give!
Give money to a group that is making a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate. Give to your church or local shelters.
Give food to food banks or families in your community who need help.
Donate the coats and clothing - even if you THINK you might wear it someday…give it to someone who will wear it.
Donate time to help others.
Donate gifts to brighten lives.
Your little world around you may be wonderful, but there are a lot of dim ones, help add some light to it.
